16th Sunday after Pentecost (and Baptism Sunday, 11:00).  Sermon (8:30 AM): “Com-
munity” (Part 1: “Why Church?” Series); (1 Timothy 1.12-17; Luke 15.1-10).  Among the major reasons people might give for coming to church: survival of the congregation; faith bene-fits; because God said so.  But ultimately, it should be because Jesus wants us to be part of the flock, not separate from it.  This is the first of a four-part series ending on Oct. 3.

17th Sunday after Pentecost and 50-Year Member Recognition. Sermon (8:30 AM): “Real People” (Part2: “Why Church?” Series); (1 Timothy 2.1-7; Luke 16.1-13).  The parable of the dishonest manager (the Luke passage) is one of the most difficult to get our heads around: Jesus seems to be commending someone for cheating his boss and getting away with it!  But isn’t this reality?  Life is made up of both good and bad, and the church gives us not only a place to meet them, but also insights into how to deal with them.

18th Sunday after Pentecost.  Sermon (8:30 AM): “Money Matters”  (Part 3: “Why
Church?” Series); (1 Timothy 6.6-19; Luke 16.19-31).  Consider this an early steward-ship sermon (that series is coming in October)!  Does it seem that the church is always asking for money?  Well, good!  Because a church that doesn’t need money is poor, and not just financially.  We’ll take a look at how giving to the church is good not only for the church, but also for our spiritual well-being.
