Partners in the Gospel
Here we are—the grand event has finally arrived.
It’s Commitment Sunday, and this is when it all comes
together. Today you have the chance to stand up and be
counted. Will you rise to the occasion?
First, let’s admit the truth: no one likes to talk about money. We
don’t like anyone telling us what to do with it, either. This week, our
daily readings in Irresistible Invitation: Responding to the Extravagant
Heart of God talked about returning to God a portion of that which
he has given. Obviously, money is part of that picture. But so are
our time and resources. Today, then, our challenge is to avoid
compartmentalizing our faith. The task at hand is to open your
heart, your soul, your mind, your strength, and all that you have in
response to the many ways God has so extravagantly poured out his
love toward you.
Over the last six weeks, we’ve all had the opportunity to see
ourselves, the world around us, and our God in new ways. As a
member of this church family, you’ve had a chance to read the book,
to discuss the concepts, and to hear the pastor’s related messages. So
what will your response be? Have you prayerfully considered how to
fill out your commitment card and service commitment form? Are
you ready to turn them in? If you never received them or you forgot
to bring them today, don’t worry; we have extras available for you to
pick up.
As you prepare to turn in these commitments, think back over
the previous weeks. Remember the insights you’ve gained and the
challenges you’ve encountered. Above all, remember that God’s
love for you is big enough to handle whatever will come in the days
ahead. So, are you ready to join the celebration?
